During the course of the program we will live together as a collective and experience running a shared household along with other Urban Kibbutz groups who live nearby. All participants will volunteer in some aspect of social action. Together we will discuss and explore the relationship between Judaism, communal sharing and social justice.
SOCIAL ACTION
We will study the Jewish value of “Tikun Olam” (repairing the world) and our actions will reflect this value. We will examine the relationship between the way we conduct our work and the way it affects the world around us. As a group we will discuss how the concept of sharing relates to meaningful social change and the differences between philanthropy and social action.
Participants will take part in important social activities with children in local schools, engage in sociological research, and work in media and agriculture:

LIVE IN THE CITY OF HAIFA
The Urban Kibbutz is located in one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Israel - between the shores of the Mediterranean and the beauty of Mount Carmel. It is not a coincidence that there are several groups like the one you’ll be part of in Haifa. It is a microcosm of all of Israel’s social issues: coexistence between Jews and Arabs; social and economic gaps; urban vs. rural dynamics, and more.
MEET YOUNG ISRAELIS
Meetings with young Israelis is an important part of the program; they will join us on trips, cultural events and weekly discussions. Together we will attempt to answer questions about Jewish identity, the life of a young person today, growing up and becoming adults, love and relationships, work, labor unions, culture and sharing in the 21st century.
